Sound to Sense - Research Discussions Meeting

Welcome Message

We are happy to welcome you to Kiel on 14-15 December 2012 for some stimulating interdisciplinary research discussions, opportunities to prepare and extend collaborations, and a dose of holiday cheer at the Weihnachtsmarkt!

The research discussion format grows out of meetings of the now-completed EC Marie Curie Research Training Network Sound to Sense (MRTN-CT-2006-035561), in which speech researchers from a wide range of backgrounds came together to pursue research across a variety of paradigms, challenge one another’s theoretical preconceptions, and develop novel approaches to speech perception by humans and machines. Although the RTN has finished, many of its members have ongoing cross-disciplinary research relationships with other scientists both inside and outside the network. Thus we are pleased to extend the invitation to this research meeting to any speech researchers who are interested in interacting with other researchers from a variety of backgrounds and expanding their interdisciplinary perspective on speech.

We are grateful to the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council and to the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel for their support for this meeting. Moreover, we are grateful to the student assistants Evelin Graupe, Karin Görs, Nona Sauter, Jana Behrens, and Christian Peters from the Dept. of General Linguistics in Kiel for their kind help before and during the workshop.

We hope this will be the first of many such meetings, and look forward to seeing you in Kiel in December!
